Learn about Steel and Stilettos Training and our commitment to firearms education
At Steel & Stilettos Firearms Training, our mission is to provide safe, professional, and confidence-building firearms and personal defense training to individuals from all walks of life. We are committed to empowering our students with the knowledge, skills, and mindset necessary to protect themselves, their loved ones, and their communities. We believe that training is more than learning how to use a firearm—it is about developing awareness, responsibility, and the confidence to make sound decisions in high-stress situations. Our goal is to create a supportive and welcoming learning environment where every student, regardless of experience level, feels respected, encouraged, and capable. Through quality instruction, real-world experience, and a passion for education, we strive to build responsible gun owners who understand the importance of ongoing training, safety, and preparedness. We are dedicated to helping individuals grow in confidence, strengthen their skills, and take ownership of their personal safety. At Steel & Stilettos Firearms Training, we don’t just teach skills—we build confidence, promote responsibility, and empower people to be prepared.
At just 20 years old, I realized the true importance of training when I was hired by the Michigan Department of Corrections. Very quickly, I understood that my safety—and sometimes my life—could be at risk on a daily basis. That reality changed my perspective and sparked a deep respect for proper training, preparation, and situational awareness.
Through my career, I discovered a true love and passion for self-defense training. What began as a necessity for my job quickly became something much bigger. I realized that the skills I learned not only helped protect me and those around me at work, but also allowed me to protect myself and my loved ones outside of work. Training became more than a requirement—it became a way of life.
Now a mother of two grown children, I balanced family life with a demanding career that pushed me to grow both personally and professionally. I served on the Emergency Response Team as a Team Leader, where I developed advanced tactical and leadership skills in high-stress environments. I later became a firearms instructor for the Michigan Department of Corrections, training officers in the safe and effective use of rifle, shotgun, and handgun platforms. Teaching others how to stay safe and confident quickly became one of the most rewarding parts of my career.
My final assignment as an Investigator with the Absconder Recovery Unit was a role I had always dreamed of achieving. It was challenging, fast-paced, and incredibly rewarding. That experience reinforced my commitment to safety, responsibility, and preparedness, and it deepened my understanding of how critical proper training is in real-world situations.
When I retired from the Michigan Department of Corrections, continuing to teach felt like the most natural next step. Teaching had always been one of the most fulfilling parts of my career, and I knew I wasn’t ready to stop helping others learn how to protect themselves. In January 2020, I founded Steel & Stilettos Firearms Training, turning my lifelong passion into a mission to educate and empower individuals from all walks of life.
Today, I am truly honored to teach individuals how to defend themselves, their loved ones, and even a perfect stranger if necessary. My goal has always been to create a learning environment that is safe, supportive, and confidence-building—especially for those who may feel nervous or unsure when they first walk through the door. I also am a USCCA Training Counselor where I certify firearms instructors.
I also write for The Armed Lifestyle Magazine where I educate on the latest products, inspiring women in the industry, and how to be more prepared with a firearm.

How We Teach
My approach to training is built on real-world experience, safety, patience, and confidence-building. I understand that every student walks into class with a different level of knowledge, comfort, and life experience, so I meet each person where they are and guide them step-by-step through the learning process.
I believe that learning should be structured, practical, and supportive. I break complex skills down into manageable steps so students can clearly understand not just how to perform a task, but why it matters. Safety is always my top priority, and I create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and learning at their own pace without feeling intimidated.
My teaching methods combine classroom instruction, hands-on learning, and real-life scenario-based training. Students first learn the fundamentals—such as safety, mindset, and proper technique—before progressing to more advanced skills. Repetition, guided practice, and positive coaching help build confidence and reinforce safe habits.
I also believe that training doesn’t end after one class. I encourage continued education and skill development because confidence and preparedness grow with practice and experience. My goal is not just to teach skills, but to empower students with the confidence, knowledge, and mindset to make responsible decisions and protect themselves and others if necessary.
