About Karl

I’m an everyday American with a love for firearms & the Second Amendment. My own CPL class left me with more questions than answers, which inspired me to become an instructor. Today, I focus on what students truly need: safe handgun fundamentals, Michigan law, situational awareness, conflict avoidance, sound judgment, and what to expect if a firearm is ever displayed or used in self-defense. My goal is for every student to leave informed, confident, and prepared for responsible concealed carry.

Teaching Philosophy

I believe firearms training should be safe, practical, and easy to understand. My goal is to meet students where they are, explain the “why” behind what we teach, and help every student leave feeling more confident, informed, and prepared.

What Makes Me Unique

We’re especially patient with students who are new to firearms, and our optional Before Class Prep Session helps ease nerves and build confidence before class begins. We also offer after-class gun cleaning and 3–4 classes each week, including weekdays, to fit busy schedules.

Class Expectations

Students can expect a welcoming, professional class with clear instruction, real-world examples, hands-on practice, and plenty of opportunities to ask questions. Whether you’re brand new or experienced, you’ll be treated with patience and respect.

Outstanding training! This was not my first firearms training class so I can attest to the quality of this CPL course in comparison to similar courses in other states as well as my previous military training. Thorough and professional, but not boring. Our instructor Karl was great. Michigan CPL training academy provides everything you need and nothing you don't. They have resources that other courses don't, including a virtual range which allows students to get comfortable handing a firearm without any of the danger associated with live fire. And it allows more advanced shooters to practice scenarios that wouldn't be possible in a live firing range. Scheduling was easy online. highly recommend Michigan CPL Training Academy, LLC

The cpl class is well paced and informative. Karl does well at making everyone feel at ease. He even offered a private space for me to pump during one of the breaks. I walked away from the class feeling much more knowledgeable on the laws, what to do in each situation, and better handgun practice /use and safety . Brad was also helpful at the range and was able to identify trouble areas or assess how to help quite easily.

Instructor Karl was a great teacher. He was patient with us, giving honest advice, and was always willing to stop and answer our questions during class. He never made anyone feel dumb, and really built up our confidence. The duel practice on his classroom virtual range and the actual gun range was a great bonus. He also has a great sense of humor and he was very fair in his pricing. As someone who never fired a gun before taking his class, I’m really glad I did.

Great class! Karl was the instructor and made the class fun. He answered all of our questions. Brad is who took us to the range. Brad was very patient. I went with my wife and both kids. Both Karl and Brad were great with the kids. I will be back to take some of their other classes. The virtual range was a blast! They also rent it out.

Great class. Information was presented professionally and easy to understand. Karl always kept the class interesting. Brad was very helpful on both the virtual range and the live fire range giving pointers on how to be more accurate. If you're looking for CPL training this is the real deal and the place to go.

This class was very informative with practical use and laws. Karl and his son in law were detailed with posture and positioning. I totally recommend this classes to anyone looking to get their cpl.

I really enjoyed the class. Karl was engaging and humorous while delivering a lot of information in a short period of time. The range instructor Brad was really good as well. He gave pointers at the virtual range and the actual range that helped tremendously. Very clear, concise and effective. Great class imo.
