We also focus heavily on situational awareness, conflict avoidance, and how to stay safe without needing to use your firearm. A key highlight of this class is a special presentation on the aftermath of self-defense, covering the legal, financial, and emotional realities that can follow a defensive incident—an essential topic often overlooked in many classes. After the classroom portion, we will travel to Downriver Guns in Belleville to complete the live-fire range qualification, where students will safely apply what they have learned under professional supervision. Michigan law requires 8 hours of instruction and a live-fire qualification of at least 30 rounds, and this course fully meets those requirements. This class is ideal for beginners, first-time gun owners, or anyone seeking their Michigan CPL in a supportive, professional learning environment. There are not enough adjectives to describe this amazing woman. My cousin mentioned a woman whom she met at a free women's firearm safety event last summer (July 2024). However, she could not remember her name. After searching for months, I found Steel and Stilettos, owner Amy Lucas. Her CPL class (taken 03/16/2025) was phenomenal. She taught how to safely load and use a firearm. In addition, Amy taught the importance of storing a firearm safely. She displayed various storage boxes and units. Amy highly emphasized how not to be a victim in the street and at home. Students were able to practice with training pistols, and we were shown how to properly hold a firearm in class and at the gun range. A very important lesson I learned from Amy was to DE-ESCALATE AT ALL COST. Women are generally more compassionate and detailed humans. Amy Lucas lived up to this philosophy. In class, she showed the various accessories for carrying a concealed weapon. Also, she showed other safety devices such as, disguised sharpie pen, pepper spray, taser, and alarms. Amy Lucas' class was my third CPL class since November 2024. My first two CPL classes were with men. I learned from both prior CPL classes, but I learned so much more from Amy Lucas (NO SHADE TO MEN). Amy Lucas was very thorough. She discussed the importance of knowing the law involving CPL license holders - Michigan and outside of Michigan. Amy Lucas' numerous website listings received after passing the class was priceless. Lastly, Amy had a gentleman to explain the importance of obtaining insurance as a CPL license holder. If an award existed for the best CPL instructor, I would bestow this award on Ms. Amy Lucas. I would highly recommend Amy Lucas, owner of Steel and Stilettos firearm training for both men and women. She is an exemplary person and instructor!!!
I and my daughter attended the CPL class taught by Amy Lucas in Adrian. The overall experience was excellent. I specifically found these items most valuable: the clear information on the pertinent laws, the discussion on proper grip, and the USCCA presentation/benefits. The range time was also very well controlled and safe, and administered by two additional instructors. I absolutely recommend this class. Years ago I had attended a CPL class from another company, it was not nearly as good as this class, and the range time felt very unsafe. I'm glad I selected Amy's class this time!
Amy Lucas was extremely knowledgeable and had many years of experience teaching these classes! Brought in many examples of guns (replicas used for teaching), holsters, even bags or purses that can be used to conceal. Amy also answered any and every question we had that was gun related. We ( my daughter and I) were able to complete the class and the required range time all in one day making it extremely easy and uncomplicated. She even sent us the documents required to apply for our permit. Excellent experience thanks to AMY LUCAS!! Cannot imagine taking this class with anyone else.
