Overview

Wyoming issues Concealed Firearm Permits (CFPs) through the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), with applications processed at the county sheriff's office in the county where the applicant resides. Wyoming also allows permitless (constitutional) carry for residents, but the CFP remains available for those who want reciprocity with other states.

Application Process

1. Complete the application online at the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) website.
2. Print four (4) copies of the completed application.
3. Submit the application in person at the sheriff's office in the county where you reside, along with all required documents and fees.
4. Do not sign the application until you are in the presence of a Wyoming Notary (the sheriff's office can provide notary services).
5. Fingerprinting is required - fingerprint cards are provided by the sheriff's office.
6. Photo for the permit must be taken at the Wyoming Department of Transportation (DOT) Driver's Services Office within 10 days of fingerprint card submission (per Albany County procedures).

DCI Fees (payable by money order or cashier's check to "DCI" or "WY Attorney General's Office")

• The $64 new application fee breaks down as: $40 DCI application processing fee + $24 FBI fingerprinting process fee.
• DCI does not accept cash, credit cards, or personal checks.
• Fees are non-refundable, even if the application is denied.

Sheriff's Office Fees (vary by county)

Fees charged by the local sheriff's office vary slightly by county. Examples:

• Albany County: $25 new (notarized at sheriff's office) or $15 new (notarized elsewhere); $15 renewal (notarized at sheriff's office) or $5 renewal (notarized elsewhere)
• Natrona County: $15 new (processing and fingerprinting); $5 renewal
• Campbell County: $20 new ($10 processing + $10 fingerprinting); $10 renewal

Accepted payment methods for sheriff's office fees vary by county (cash, personal check, money order, or cashier's check - check with your local office).

Processing Time

• Processing can take up to 60-90 days depending on volume, once all documents are received at DCI.
• The sheriff's office will receive the completed permit and contact the applicant.

Permit Validity

• The concealed firearm permit is valid for five (5) years.

Renewal Requirements

• Complete a Concealed Weapon Renewal Application from the DCI website.
• Submit four (4) copies to the county sheriff's office.
• Renewal before expiration: $45.00 to DCI.
• Renewal after expiration (within 6 months): $55.00 to DCI (includes a $10 late fee).
• If the permit has been expired for more than six (6) months, the applicant must reapply as a new applicant with full new application requirements and fees.
• Proof of firearms proficiency is not listed as required for renewals (only the renewal application and fees are specified).

Other Applications

• Duplicate permit (lost or destroyed): $5.00 to DCI, plus a sheriff's office processing fee.
• Name changes or address changes are also processed through the sheriff's office with applicable forms from the DCI website.
